The Italian company Menoventi and the French company Pardès Rimonim started a joint research to attempt a European collaboration. After two residencies that led to étape 1 and étape 2, the companies decided to continue their research by planning the creation of a catalogue, a manual, a series made up of an undefined number of episodes about a common topic: Survival in all its possible meanings. The aesthetic and formal challenge is to reflect about survival by using all kinds of different materials, gathered from direct experiences, taking from the work of others, recycling materials and experiences to finally build a new layer of sense capable of uniting our inventions and ideas with the ideas and fancies of others. Menoventi works with the texture of reality and its countless wrinkles, seen as a thick, dense space that actors and their instruments shape. -20 °C is the temperature shown by the “upside-down thermometer” that marks his research: A path directed by subtraction, robbing the audience of everything that makes them feel safe in the darkness of the theatre. The work of the Faenza-based company, which was created in 2005 by Consuelo Battiston, Gianni Farina and Alessandro Miele, follows this direction, crossing the boundaries of representation and inhabiting the theatre so radically that it steps out of its frame.
